Tim Hamilton

For his sophomore outing as a womenswear designer, Tim Hamilton incorporated his expertise in menswear (for which he recently received a CFDA award) with an innovative twist in silhouettes and drapery. A cream-colored suit’s pants had elongated pockets, which gave them a jodhpur shape, and a built-in cummerbund suggesting masculine formalwear, while a relaxed linen top had an asymmetrical placket and high-low hemline. But the collection was much more than just menswear interpreted for women. Slinky dresses, one in lipstick red with drawstring-ruched sides, jeweled bandeaus and slim miniskirts infused it with sexiness. Avant garde elements, like a leather harness worn with a cropped top and bike shorts and a black top with one kimono sleeve attached to an exaggerated lapel, showed that Hamilton has a diverse perspective. With his sure-handed approach to tailoring and clean yet slightly off-kilter shapes, Tim Hamilton proved he can create appealing designs for girls, too.
