Tim Coppens

New York: Last season then rookie designer Coppens looked to street tough French-Maghreb teenagers to produce a collection full of menacing streetwear and hybrid themes. For his second effort Coppens produced an equally hybrid collection, here mixing iconic menswear staples like the khaki trench coat with racing inspired touches inspired by the movie Drive. Here, trim track pants fit comfortably under cropped, double-breasted trench coats in technical materials grounded by earthy shearling collars. Coppens showed a number of sporty, zip-front racer jackets in homage to the now iconic stuntman’s jacket from Drive, but the designer’s most innovative nod to fast cars were the leather patch-and-strip harnesses that mimicked the safety systems that protect race car and stunt drivers from inevitable high-speed impacts.  —Andrew Luecke
