COVETING THE BASICS
New York: Tibi’s designer Amy Smilovic brought the basics for S/S 13, but in an age of fast-trend fashion, sometimes these pared-down pieces are the most impactful. Just as covetable as any sequined shirt or complicated dress, the collection’s washed denim vests, jackets and straight-leg jeans were well-cut everyday items, while fitted shell tops featured gently curved hems. Suiting looks were sporty, built from slim stretch twill trousers and matching minimal blouson jackets paired with cropped knit tops to solidify Spring’s Junior direction. Smilovic’s geometric diamond repeats may have been bland, but a floral mesh lace made up for this pattern misstep with a subtly degraded motif.—Nina Stotler
