CLASSICS GO POP
New York: Pops of color and eye-catching prints characterized Amy Smilovic’s current collection for Tibi. The prints came in two varieties. First, there were grids, which were a key motif this season. Then came a surrealist mirror-image paint-drip coral print. Speaking of surrealists, the designer also presented a timely large-scale lobster graphic in honor of Elsa Schiaparelli, whose work is currently on view at the Met. Placed against pure white and solid black, the striking tones of citron, fiery red, and refreshing teal seemed to leap off the clothing. The simple, classic separates were the perfect canvas for the saturated tones and attention-grabbing prints. –Joanna Manganaro
