WHAT LIES BENEATH
Thuy Diep played a game of peek-a-boo with bits of polished undergarments showing beneath tops, dresses and skirts. The hemline of an awning-striped skirt was lifted and tacked to the waistline in a modern-day interpretation of baroque style, perhaps picking up from Balenciaga’s influential Fall 09 collection. A chic, slightly offbeat palette of cosmetic neutrals, lilac and terrcotta was accented with black and white and popped with bits of chartreuse and purple. Thuy touched on many of the important elements of the season, including cut-outs, asymmetrically placed drapery, sheer overlayers and new treatments for trenchcoats. Exposed zippers added a punky edge to what was mostly a wearable, ladylike collection.
