New York…Marc by Marc Jacobs
Depending on which runway review you read, you’ll find a million different inspirations for Marc by Marc Jacobs’ F/W 09 collection. It’s really no great surprise since Jacobs has one of the most conflicted messages each and every season. Some thought his fall showing had bits of ’80s hip hop mixed in for good measure, and you could see some of that in the form of fur “pimp” coats and bold colors. But, there were also plaids, argyles, cardigans, bow ties and nerd glasses to throw off that whole Back in the Days vibe. For the most part, the show was a mishmash of decades, patterns, silhouette and colors. Floral shirts and floral ties tried to live in harmony on many of the models, while untucked plaid shirts peeked out from slim school boy cardigans. At the end of the day, one can never read too much into Jacobs’ seasonal offering, and should instead take it for what it is: whimsical, playful clothes that don’t take themselves too seriously.
