Reactions were mixed when it was reported in May that Olivier Theyskens would design a capsule collection for Theory. Doubts about the designer’s ability to streamline his haute couture aesthetic enough to achieve Theory’s commercial appeal were put to rest last Tuesday when the line showed at New York Fashion Week. The collection, which will retail for approximately 20 percent more than the brand’s main line, debuted to positive reviews. It included all of the polished, practical pieces that one expects from Theory, but with slightly more fashion-forward cuts, use of luxe materials and overall artful tailoring.
