Love to try new food but have a favourite place you keep going back too? This new wave of restaurants could well be for you. Weekly (or even daily) changing menus that put seasonal, fresh produce into the spotlight are on the rise. This officially means we can head to our favourite spot, time and time again but still be surprised – sounds like a winning idea to us!

Balthazars Keuken, Amsterdam

Elandsgracht 108 / 31 (0)204202114

Neighbourhood: De Negen Straatjes

Each week at Balthazars Keuken, Chefs Karin Gaasterland and Alain Parry create a new three-course menu inspired by international cuisine. The fusion cooking uses only what is fresh and in-season, with a focus on unusual taste pairings. The laid back atmosphere is described as being similar to ‘enjoying a dinner at a good friend’s house’, except in this case the friend is a top-notch chef and the house is a cosy, elegant spot in the heart of Amsterdam.

Celerí, Barcelona

Passatge Marimon, 5 08021 / 34 93 2529544

Neighbourhood: Sant Gervasi/Turo Parc

This open-kitchen restaurant by Michelin-star chef Chef Xavier Pellicer shifts the focus to vegetables – reworking the menu as often as is needed around seasonal offerings. The revolving options are based on a roster of eight organic vegetables, re-interpreted as three vegan, vegetarian and animal-based protein options. The space is airy and minimal, which visually reflects the restaurant’s equally modern and stylish take on dining.

Plant Food and Wine, Los Angeles

1009 Abbot Kinney Boulevard 90291 / 1 213 935 8035

Neighbourhood: Venice/Abbot Kinney Blvd.

This upscale vegan restaurant offers a cutting edge approach to plant-based dining, with a constantly evolving menu of locally sourced ingredients. Diners can sample a rotating selection of California’s finest vegetables, seeds, grains and legumes whilst surrounded by the on-site edible garden and sleek, minimal décor. The wine list is entirely organic, adding a further seasonal dimension through changing biodynamic options.

Vico, London

One Cambridge Circus WC2H 8PA / 44 (0)20 7379 0303

Neighbourhood: Covent Garden

This Italian restaurant focuses on inexpensive and fresh dining, with an informal atmosphere to match. The menu changes daily but you can expect a range of pizza, fritti, arancini and antipasti dishes based on whichever ingredients are in season. The space is fun and inviting, with colour pop furniture and strung out lighting inspired by traditional Italian street vendors – helping you to live La Dolce Vita a little closer to home.
