Paris…Dries Van Noten
Easy silk pieces caused a moment of silence to fall upon the crowd at the Dries Van Noten show. Simplicity in shift dresses, duster coats and menswear shorts was the cure buyers needed to calm their nerves for the S/S 09 season. A stroll through the “From Russia” exhibit at London’s Royal Academy of Arts prescribed the perfect graphic black and white checkerboard for most of his prints. Opulent and subtly ombred colors replaced painterly florals from past collections. After looking at Malevich canvas, his reaction was, “I thought what emotion a black stripe could bring.” A white blouse tucked in to a luxurious gold liquid skirt provided his fans with a sense of ease. And a simple black blazer tied this collection together.
