New York: Classic designs made from the finest fabrics characterized The Row’s Pre-Fall collection, which the designers described as “wearable luxury.” Modest and minimal, the garments included crisp, creased trousers, calf-grazing straight skirts, and elegant outerwear. One element that defined this and every one of the label’s offerings was the utter lack of vulgarity. The impossibly high level of sophistication embodied by the twenty-something twin designers is always impressive and helps to justify the label’s sky-high prices. This season, an Asian sensibility asserted itself in the spare shapes, obi-inspired belts, and origami folding that appeared on the back of a midi skirt. The Olsen’s designs are often deceptively simple. Hidden details, such as removable beaver cuffs and interior waistband buttons will allow the wearer to change them to suit her needs and desires. Personalization, as they say, is the ultimate form of luxury.–Joanna Manganaro
