The Row

New York:  Although the shelf life of most trends is limited to a single season, one that has managed to evade the fashion guillotine is the nautical theme. Resort saw Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen tread familiar seaside ground for their luxury label, The Row. Inspired by the Luchino Visconti film set in the 1940s, Death in Venice (1971), the designers updated the classic motif with smartly tailored yet relaxed cotton separates, breezy silk dresses, and sailor stripes in skinny, spaced-out and vertical variations. Ribbon-trimmed fedoras, Gravati spectators and delicate jewelry from Greek designer Ileana Makri fully immersed the collection in the cool, effortless sway of the Mediterranean town. –Nivara Xaykao
