The inimitable Peggy Moffitt in Rudi Gernreich.
All the 2012 buzz on this late fashion maverick suddenly makes sense: Rudi Gernreich, oh he of the topless swimsuit and op-art patterns, is set to return to fashion in 2014 with an as-yet-unnamed German entrepreneur slated to bring the late designer’s legacy back to the runway. Based in New York, the label will operate under the Gernreich trademark name; a search for the design team is now underway. Following the MoCa L.A. show and recent high-profile 1stDibs sale, Gernreich’s designs are on display through October 7th at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in an exhibit called “The Total Look.” And with the fashion industry in a 60s-inspired reverie at the moment, the Return of Rudi seems all-too-apt.
