Fashion is always changing and evolving, it is the nature of the game and what makes it so special. Every time you think it might get stale, here fashion comes with a new innovative approach, from tech to 3D printing. Fashion hubs also change and evolve as a new wave of talent comes in, retail prices rise, and global consumer habits change. In the last two years we’ve been tracking the new fashion hubs globally, places that are staking their claim across the globe from London to Los Angeles.
Get to know theses new spots below:
180 strand (London)
In February, this spot was the location for the season’s London Fashion Week shows and most recently it was the scene of a fashion editor takeover – thanks to the Dover Street Market sample sale (Commes Des Garcons at 80 per cent off- yes please). It’s also an arts hub with Hayward Gallery off-site video exhibitions.
Canal Street Market (NYC)
If you’ve ever been to the Boxpark in East London, you’ll understand the magic of a retail space like New York’s Canal Street Market. The space which only opened a year ago is home to a revolving number of mini independent retailers (who change each month). Then there are the brand activations from Man Repeller’s IRL hub that was there recently to the current NYC design week offering. Plus the space has now just opened a food hall, with all of NY’s fave foodie spots inside.
Platform LA (LA)
This is an upscale retail hub, where you can get your high-end designer goods and then sign up for a free onsite yoga class. There’s a permanent collection of retailers (from Aesop to Blue Bottle Coffee) and a selection of revolving pop-up store retailers, plus a Soul Cycle location. It’s the place high end retailers go to launch concession stores (eyewear/accessories)- to gauge interest and track footfall for their new product launches.
Pinkstar Art Space (Guangzhou)
Fashion and art have always been bedfellows and Pinkstar Art Space certifies that idea- it’s part art gallery/ part fashion show space. Come for the Millennial pink exterior, stay for the fashion shows.
As the retail industry as a whole wrestles with how to be the one thing to all people, retail locations that merge food, furniture and fashion are becoming the norm. This spot in Beijing has nailed the idea of a multi-shopping experience (but it looks nothing like a mall) it’s luxury personified with minimalist Scandi decor (created by Norman Copenhagen) and art on the walls.
