Milan…Dolce & Gabbana
Who would have imagined this duo to be in the vanguard of a modern movement that respects aspects of comfort just as much as style? However this is the case. Dolce & Gabbana have in the past two seasons reinvented the sweat-pant into a chic piece of ready-to-wear. They showed this erstwhile gym staple several times; a roomy pant with an elastic waist, a drawstring and then cuffed or rolled at the ankle. It was styled in a variety of ways, a white shirt with blue collar and jaunty bowtie, a retro-look bomber jacket, even with a shawl-collared tux. Accessory note: many of the Dolce men held the hot new man-bag, a firm version of the carry-all, perfect for work, the gym or a weekend away. In other places there was a play on men’s pajamas, relaxed-fit suits in stripes and an Asian-looking two-piece in a Chinese print that might have been an homage to Dries; all this from Dolce & Gabbana, who’d have thought it?
