New York: The first lingerie brand to win a grant from the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation, The Lake & Stars held their first presentation during New York Fashion Week to a jam-packed crowd at Pier 59. Brooklyn-based designers Maayan Zilberman and Nikki Dekker amped up the drama of their soft yet edgy deconstructive aesthetic, adding curved architectural lines inspired by Italian neoclassicism and grid-like graphics and spare surfaces reminiscent of mid-century design; scroll-like prints from artist Francesca DiMattio and glitzy beadwork gave the collection further pop. Underwire bras and shapewear were a welcome addition to their usual mix of floaty camis and tap pants, and the refreshingly voluptuous, regular-sized models mirrored the new curvaceous silhouettes.
