The Hoxton Amsterdam is quickly becoming a top choice when visiting the city, says WGSN Sara Maggioni.
The Amsterdam outpost of hip Hoxton Hotel chain opened its doors in July last year – the first venture outside London for the group. Situated on central Herengracht canal, the 111-guestrooms hotel preserves the same cool vibe and sleek aesthetic that made the London’s Hoxton Hotels popular.
Here’s three other reasons we loved it:
Where: Herengracht 255, 1016 BJ Amsterdam
What: Stay and Eat & Drink
Location of course: Amsterdam is famous for its Unesco World Heritage-worthy canals, a unique and postcard-perfect setting that is only rivalled by Venice (another Unesco heavyweight). Could there be a better location to wake up to when visiting Amsterdam than right by these historical canals? I’d say that’s pretty hard to beat.
The unexpected “extras”: The brown paper breakfast bag filled with a banana, granola and OJ waiting outside your door every morning, oozes a heart-warming, nostalgic feel –reminds me of mama packing my lunch bag! One hour of free global phone calls and a fridge stocked with water and fresh milk are also a nice touch.
The design: Although keeping the same signature style as the London’s hotels in Shoreditch and Holborn, the Hoxton Amsterdam was designed by local interior design duo Nicemakers, who took inspiration from the building’s history and local neighbourhood and adapted it to the brand’s usual formula: glocalization at its best.
