Paris: From the opening ensemble of a cropped jacket , slim, tailored red trimmed trousers tucked in to gorgeous leather boots neatly finished with tassels, you knew ‘this collection would be exquisite”. Not a detail, accessory or material was left untouched without the addition of some finite detail. Alber Elbaz went back to his birthplace Morocco and thought : “shapes and squares and volume and the whole idea of dressing there”. adding “the idea was to start with something totally nomad and urbanize it”. Consequently, Moroccan inspired constructions were a major motif, edged on jackets and skirts while the indigenous rich textures, passementeries, 3-D embroideries, fringing and tassel belts encapsulated the mood. Fluid wrapped skirts were teamed with the simplest of tank tops, asymmetric leather harnesses gave clean and dynamic interest to necklines while prints, drawn from the archives were used in intarsias creating sublime gold patchworks. Every look was creatively balanced in fluid proportions rendering a collection that was gorgeous, evocative and simply seductive. – Lizzy Bowring
