The Darker Side of Life

New York…Max Azria

With a F/W 09 collection that “explores the ethereal seduction of the dark side,” a palette of moonless night, antique white, and aubergine emerged. Perhaps Azria was channeling Joan of Arc with billowing dresses in crêpe and velvet along with full-length leather gloves, evoking her crusading days. An ethereal lightness came through with translucent silks and laces on broad shouldered blouses. “We fell in love with a piece of lace,” Lubov said of her inspiration, which appeared as trim on dresses along with tops that were layered under sleeveless-tuxedo jackets. Zippered velvet leggings and platform biker booties added to this rough yet refined look.

  • Really Gothic in a beautiful, delicate way.

Every look that I saw at this show was decadent in every way..I loved the asymmetry, the high gloves, the intricate laces, the transparencies, and those ultra-suede legs. I did not mind the darkness of it, I was inticed that Lubov interpreted a more romantic side of the popular gothic trend.

Very beautiful silhouettes, and I think the ethereal fabrics pair well with those edgy, full-length gloves.

It reminds me of the Megatrends Silence theme for F/W 10- haunting, yet alluring.
