Attending beauty press events gives me access to the hottest new product launches set to hit the cosmetic aisles. And as a beauty editor, I get to sample some of the latest finds in beauty land on a day-to-day basis. Here are my top five products that have excited me this week. Purses at the ready…
1. Face Paint
You should never judge a book by its cover, but exception to the rule is Lisa Eldridge’s new Face Paint: The Story of Makeup – the make-up artist’s first book. A striking cover of a beautiful close-up face made up heavily in an array of vivid colours makes for an impressive first impression. And as you continue to flick through the pages, this illustrated book is filled with even more surprises with stunning illustrations. Not only did it inspire me, but it’s also really informative featuring a history of make-up and the reasons why we use cosmetics.
Fragrance is a powerful tool. It can take us back to a nostalgic moment in the past or have a direct link to our emotions. For me, Diptyque encapsulates this. I first discovered the brand as a student (9 years ago) when I worked part-time at Space NK and ever since then I have been a huge fan of the fragrances – and scented candles. The newest product launch from the brand is a collection called 34 Eaux de Parfum. I particularly love Eau Mage, a perfume built around note of amber, mandarin zest, spices and musk. What’s really cool too is the packaging. The blown glass is dipped into ice cold water to form a cracked effect on the bottle, while the stopper caps are made from malachite and precious metals. A beautiful scent matched with a equally beautiful design.
3. Being Humble
Humble is a really lovely new brand from TV presenter, environmentalist and farmer Kate Humble. All the products are made from natural, biodegradable ingredients and use recyclable packaging that is kind to our earth – which makes me love it even more! The collection comprises of 11 products but my absolute must-have is the Bath Honey Rose & Frankincense. Why? Because it’s the perfect product to help me unwind after a long day. The brown jam jar-like packaging is also super cute!
4. A Fresh Mist
As the weather turns colder and the heaters turn up, my skin can get very dry from the change in temperatures. To help keep it hydrated, Decleor’s Aurabsolu Refreshing Mist is my winter savior. A cocktail mix of ingredients aids in keeping skin moisturized and fresh, while an aromatic blend of lemongrass, thyme and rosemary leaves a delightful scent. Spritz whenever the skin needs a boost – this is one product you shouldn’t leave the house without.
5. Smoke & Mirrors
I’m a huge of fan of By Terry make-up – amazing colours, beautiful textures and luxurious packaging are some of the words that spring to mind when describing the products. The brand’s seasonal beauty collection never disappoints and this autumn the Eye Designer Palette from the Game of Light line is my ultimate hot pick. The mirrored compact comes with 10 eye colours comprising of nudes, shimmery metallics and smokier shades, plus a double-ended brush, to transform my make-up look from desk to the dancefloor.
