From classic skin savers to a make-up compact with magical powers, WGSN Beauty Assistant Emma Grace Bailey reports on her essential must-haves
Most people have those few special products that they fill up on as soon as it’s payday. Whether it be a certain type of cleanser or foundation, a favourite lippy or a hair care product that turns your locks from scary to sweet in an instant. They are the key items that make us feel like us again, and I certainly have my fair share of must-haves that I’m pretty sure I would fall apart without. Here are just five from my arsenal.
1. Lip Therapy:
My lips are a constant source of irritation. Day on day they’re dry, cracked and sore and no matter how many different types of product I try nothing really seems to fix them. So when I come across a new potential saviour I get a little bit excited and Erborian’s Doudoune for lips has been more exciting than most. Its gentle mix of soybean oil, vitamin E acetate, allantoin and lavender extract helps to sooth, repair, restore and protect the lips from free radicals, harsh environments, air-conditioning and central heating alike. It’s a wonderfully smooth consistency and adds shine as well as hydration, and thus far my lips have felt better than they have in an age.
2. Food For Thought:
It’s Victoria Beckham’s fave and I can see why. Weleda’s Skin Food might not look (or smell) like much but just a smidgen applied every morning and night makes the skin feel as plump, plush and perfectly smooth as a baby’s tush. Formulated back in 1926 this is an oldie but a goodie, and can be used from head to the toe. Personally, I smother it over my face before bed and let the combination of sunflower seed oil, wild pansy, chamomile, calendula and rosemary work their magic overnight.
3.Wash & Go:
I was first gifted this set of shampoo and conditioner when I interviewed the Windle and Moodie pair a few months back. Having been a slave to the high street varieties for far too long, it was refreshing to see just what a well thought out product could do for my locks, and this combination of rooibos tea, argan oil and wheat protein injects a buoyant liveliness into each strand. Advice from the experts is to shampoo twice before conditioning, allowing the product to really get lathered up and strip away all the dirt and grime.
For the last few months my skin has been drinking up Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting BHA Liquid like it depends on it, and it probably does. Designed to target breakouts, acne, blackheads, redness and sensitive skin, the 2% salicylic acid gently exfoliates away old skin cells on both the skin’s surface and inside the pores. The result? Fresh, blemish free skin throughout the month, with any angry areas quickly dealt with before they reach the danger zone. A skin saver if ever there was one.
5.Light and Shade:
Without Illamasqua’s Sculpting Powder Duo my face would look as flat as a pancake. Subtle yet effective, it adds definition to my jawline and cheekbones that I just can’t achieve any other way. If I had to choose between this and my daily eyeliner usage, it would have to be this – simply because it brings me back from the brink of any late night shenanigans with a simple brush and a blend. Contouring might be old hat these days, but it’s still a vital part of my day-to-day regime.
