Get inspired by the New York catwalk this season, it’s all about foil tipped nails and pastel lilac eyeshadow, says WGSN Beauty Assistant Emma Grace Bailey
Backstage at New York Fashion Week is a flurry of madness and inspiration – something to keep you warm whilst the temperature drops lower and lower outside. Here are five looks that I’m itching to re-create from the AW16 catwalks as soon as an occasion allows.
1. Tadashi Shoji
This wash of copper pigment with a hint of rose gold highlighter, by make-up artist James Kaliardos, is sublime. Using a copper sparkle from MAC, it’s not intended to be perfect, but rather a fun and creative look applied with abandon. Paired with clear skin, natural brows and colour free lips – it really is the eyes that draw you in. Although, to be fair, Katie Jane Hughes’ foil tipped nails are pretty spot on too.
2. Jason Wu
Punk meets luxury – or so said make-up artist Yadim who masterminded this stripped back look for Jason Wu. Using Maybelline’s Colossal Spider Effect mascara, the lashes are the focal point, clumped together at the tips and slicked with lip gloss to keep it fresh. Foundation is a no-no would you believe it, with just a little concealer under the eyes to keep any signs of tiredness at bay. Youthful with attitude – just how I like it.
3. Fenty Puma by Rihanna
If I’m honest I have no intentions of re-creating this look, but it’s incredible nonetheless. Rihanna was never going to let us down and I’m loving the Health Goth vibes she has going on here. Created by Yusef Williams, the hair is said to be an ‘arctic urban forest’ slicked back with thick white paint. Paired with that incredible black lip and skin as clear as snow, it’s striking simply for its boldness.
I’m obsessed with this glossy orange eye, it’s a little weird and that makes it a little wonderful. The fact it’s not perfect and creases along the lid line makes it even better in my opinion, because perfection isn’t everything. Big bushy brows, no mascara and a practically make-up free face ensures the look is grungy cool rather than a little bit trashy too.
You might have guessed that I’m a little obsessed with the eyes. Lipstick isn’t my thing so I’ve focused everything on the lids for as long as I can remember and I can’t wait to try out this soft, matte, pastel lilac hue shown at Milly. Taken up to the brow and into the very corner of the eye it’s playful and kind of Disney-esque marvellous. Pairing it with glossy black nails strips away any notions of childishness too.
