The fashion month merry-go-round is finally over. We’ve suffered through four weeks of backstage catering (never gluten and dairy free friendly FYI, it’s a disgrace). Seen up close and personal how the world’s top hair stylists and make-up artists create the most coveted looks of the season, and clocked up an impressive number of steps on our phone’s pedometer as we’ve hurtled from show to show, city to city.
But we’re home now, and in desperate need of some TLC that will pep us up quickly enough to report on everything we’ve seen which as much gusto as we had four weeks ago, when the whole shindig first began.
Here are the three things I’ve done this week to help return myself to my normal human status.
The latest concierge beauty service to enter the market, Beautii serves the Greater London area with on-demand services and experts that will come to you, when and wherever is most convenient. Providing everything from gel manicures to blow-dries, braids, make-overs and even spray tans and massages, I indulged in a bio-sculpture mani with the lovely Danae who set up shop in my kitchen for an hour or so to tend to my weary hands. Surrounded by last night’s washing up – regrettably – and clothed in what were basically pyjamas, it was a delightful way to get back on track with my key maintenance regime without actually having to leave the house.
Now to the hair. After four weeks of varying temperatures, fashion parties, limited sleep and a constant battering from backstage hairdryers, my locks were in need of some attention. Fitting in that much needed salon trip is a constant mindfield, which is why I was super excited to learn about this new 24/7 service from celebrity hairdresser Darren Scott. Devised to fit around your schedule, this London centric service can be ordered for the salon, home, office or even hotel, at any time that might work for you – whether that be at the crack of dawn before heading into the office, or last thing at night after those post-work bevvies and a stop at the local chippie. We’ve all been there.
Pollution is one of the skin’s greatest enemies right now, and with fashion week taking place in four of the most heavily polluted cities in the world it’s no wonder that my skin has become duller and far less manageable in recent weeks. To rectify this build up of grime, however, I took myself to one of the gems of the skincare world, Dr Russo – a Harley Street veteran who’s residency at the Four Season’s Park Lane Hotel sees the maestro offer his much sought after Clinical Facial within the establishment’s penthouse spa facilities. Set to a backdrop of panoramic skyline views, this facial is serious business, based around Russo’s new line of SPF infused skincare he’s launched to help counteract the very real issue of sun protection. (Note, it’s recommended we apply at least a tablespoon of sunscreen to our faces every day, from the moment we wake up – do we?)
Starting with a deep, exfoliating, cleansing session that removed more dirt and sebum from my face than I’d care to admit, he went onto use a dermaroller that penetrated my skin all over with a plethora of tiny needles, opening up channels in the skin to help better absorb the products. Although somewhat painful, it served its purpose, with the next application of retinol infused serum sinking deep into my dermis with ease, noted thanks to the slight stinging that tells you its working. Exfoliating pads with glycolic and salicylic agents followed suit, and the whole hour long facial was finished off with a firm yet supremely relaxing lymphatic drainage massage, that helps to stimulate the blood flow and drain away built up fluid to bring definition back to the face. Once let loose back in the changing rooms to stare at my reflection I couldn’t have been happier. Pores were visibly reduced, a glowing appearance stared back at me and skin was lifted to reveal what appear to be cheekbones. Who knew? 🙂
