Having just returned from a little summer trip to Santorini I am currently in the midst of a painstaking time, desperately trying everything under the sun to stop my well-curated tan from slinking off back to where it came from. With a wedding just around the corner – for which I happen to be a bridesmaid  – I really don’t fancy looking like a peeling, blotchy mess as I stand in the background of what are meant to be wonderful wedding snaps.  So in a bid not to look like Tony the Tiger on her big day, here are the five products I’ve almost been bathing in to ensure my golden tan stays golden for longer.

1. Lancaster Tan Maximiser After Sun
Pretty much a cult product among the sun worshippers, Lancaster’s Tan Maximiser After Sun is ideally used during and after your holiday, applied daily to soothe the skin when baking, then liberally once the fun is over to help keep up appearances. With a unique technology designed to intensify melanin production even when out of the rays, this lightweight and fast penetrating formula will moisturise the skin for a smooth, radiant and long-lasting tan.

2. Xen-Tan Transform Luxe:
If merely holding on to your holiday glow isn’t enough, then Xen-Tan’s Transform Luxe gradual self-tan will help you build on that beachy base. Packed with moisture, this clear lotion develops into a natural looking, olive-toned glow, and when used a few days after the acquirement of a real tan, it’ll help extend its life expectancy exponentially. Year-round tan here I come.

3. Lanolips Golden Dry Skin Salve:
Moisture, moisture, moisture. It’s the cardinal rule when trying to prevent the peel (that and no scratching but that is SO much harder to achieve). This all-over salve from Lanolips, however, provides the perfect on-the-go hydration for all those tricky to reach and therefore infinitely more irritable areas. Use to sooth the décolletage, behind the knees, between the fingers and toes, and apply liberally to the nose because, if you’re anything like me, it’ll have gone an embarrassing shade of crimson.

4. Imedeen Tan Optimizer:
This product takes a little more dedication, requiring, as it does, for you to actually remember to take it. It’s also a pre-tan product, but it will ensure that whilst out and about in the sun your skin is protected from within. Not to be used in lieu of sunscreen, these sun preparation tablets should be taken for four weeks before planned sun exposure as well as during, and help protect the skin from oxidative stress thanks to the combination of vitamins C and E. Happy and healthy, the best way to tan.

5. Guerlain Terracotta Sun Serum Tan Booster Complex:
Designed to be added to your everyday moisturiser and body lotion, this Sun Serum from Guerlain delivers deep hydration and a tanning complex that will boost melanin production for a natural looking tan, helping to prolong the real one. Deeply soothing as well, expect thoroughly moisturised skin that will glow long into the autumn months.
