When it comes to the beauty realm, you’d think women had it set. There are thousands upon thousands of products marketed to us, the fairer sex, and our options far outweigh those on the shelf for men, yet somehow enough is still not enough.
Which is why this week I’ve been having a rummage in the guys’ drawer for products that might just offer me something I can’t find elsewhere – and it wasn’t as hard as I thought.
Below are the five delights that I’ve found and plan to adopt into my own beauty regime:
1. Anthony Exfoliating & Cleansing Bar
Soap appears to be back in a big way – despite the many slippery ordeals we’ve had with it in the past. And for the men, this means a new launch from Anthony in the form of an Exfoliating & Cleansing Bar – a multi-tasking little devil. Packed with jojoba spheres for exfoliation, shea butter, squalene, coconut oil, cucumber extract and grapefruit essence it’s designed to be used as an all over body scrub – perfect for pre-tanning – or to soothe the skin after shaving, which lets face it doesn’t have to strictly mean the face now does it?
2. Izola Not A Hair Out Of Place Hair Comb
My hair cut is pretty similar to a guys, but, you know, in a feminine and alluring way. Short all over with a longer lop on the top for ‘styling purposes’ some might think it’s easy to tame, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Every morning I wake up it looks like each follicle has had an absolute rager, resulting in a bouffant as wild as an unkempt hedgerow. Using a brush on this monstrosity only serves to amp up the volume even more, so I’ve discovered that a simple comb like this one from Izola works a treat, pulling through the hair and helping to style it without too much excess product. No one likes a crispy barnet.
3. Malin + Goetz Hair Pomade
Speaking of hair product, everyone needs a little something something and I’m quite penchant to this simple pomade from Malin + Goetz. With their first ever UK stores opening this week in London’s Covent Garden and Angel it is now easily accessible (thank God), which is great news for those like me who find its natural, matte texture and residue-free finish a delight to both use and behold.
4. Cowshed Neville Gentleman’s Face Kit
I really am borrowing from the boys with this one, a travel-sized kit of all the essentials from Cowshed’s Neville range, including a Rescue Scrub, Shave Cream and Cooling Balm. Let me explain. The first is universal, skin is skin and mine is as in need of a rescue sometimes as any mans, what with all the product I throw at it, and this scrub with its volcanic ash and corn granules is designed to appease everyday aggressors whilst resurfacing and brightening. As for the Shave Cream, I’m betting it’s just as good on the pins as it is on the face and that nifty little cooling balm to use post shave could be very handy when trying to quickly whip off a layer of duly missed stubble around the ankles before lying poolside.
When this gem of a scent launched back in 2010 it instantly became the brand’s most adored fragrance. Its unusual pineapple top note gives it an extra special twist, followed by a heart of jasmine, birch and juniper berries for an irresistibly heady mix.

Good news then that the brand have just launched a female version, which I happened to have a sneak preview of this morning. Emulating the addictive essence of the gentleman’s version, this captivating scent replaces pineapple with green apple and finishes on a base of fruity peachness for something really quite intriguing.
