The golden beauty rule for good skin starts with a good cleanser. Whether you prefer an oil (like me), milk, foam, balm or even make-up wipes, it’s the one product in our bathroom cabinet that we use day in and out. I love that feeling at the end of the day when you remove all your make-up – it’s like taking off an uncomfortable pair of high heels.

Make-up artists backstage at the fashion shows are always stressing the importance of skin prep. A good base provides better make-up application. Moreover, cleansers are becoming more and more innovative, thanks to the clever products coming out of Korea, which I must admit I’m pretty obsessed about. This week I wanted to highlight five new smart cleansers that might just change the way you think about washing your face.

1. NMC Magma Bean Multi Cleanser
Korean skincare is well regarded for its clever innovations, transformative textures and playful packaging and this product comes with a fun factor and triple functionality. This multi-type cleanser may look like a jar stacked full of sweets but in fact the four candy-like beans are designed for facial cleansing. The beads come in four colours to target different skin concerns: blue for moisturising, yellow for brightening, pink for clarifying and green for clarity. The beads transform into a lovely creamy texture on contact with water and lather up to create a soft foam wash. It can also double up as a shampoo or shower gel by using two or three beans. Genius!

2. Erno Laszlo Bespoke Cleansing Collection
I was invited to this product launch last week, so I’ve only been using it for a few days. Dr Erno Laszlo was the original doctor brand used by Hollywood starlets since the twenties. He pioneered the art of personalised, problem-solving skincare – a trend still relevant today as bespoke beauty products are on the rise. The new Bespoke Cleansing Collection incorporates a two-step, double cleansing ritual featuring a cleansing oil and cleansing bar. Apply the oil first and then use the soap to massage the skin before washing off. I’m currently using the Detoxify one and not only does it smell good, it also leaves my skin clarified and clear. There are four products in the collection which includes Detoxify, Hydra-Therapy, Firmarine and Sensitive.

3. NeoGen Dermalogy Real Fresh Cleansing Stick Green Tea
A recent discovery, cleansing sticks are becoming more sought-after thanks to its practical portable size, targeted application and solid format. This new product (launched last month) boasts real green tea leaves to exfoliate skin and a low pH5 to keep skin balanced. Plus, the oil-based formula removes hard to budge make-up but doesn’t leave skin dry. A dream cleanser for travelling. I’ll be taking this gem with me when I travel to Japan this week.

4. Aveda Tulasara Morning Awakening Ritual Kit
Inspired by Ayurveda, an ancient Indian healing system based on a holistic and balanced approach between the mind, body and spirit, this new ritual kit uses this traditional approach to promote beautiful healthy skin. The facial dry brush is the star product. The custom designed brush, which looks like a mini version of a body brush, features soft bristles to massage and exfoliate the skin, while the oil contains six plant oils including sesame, sunflower and sweet almond to nourish the skin for a radiant glow.

5.Youth To The People Kale, Green Tea, Spinach Vitamins Age Prevention Cleanser
Infused with antioxidant-rich extracts of kale, green tea and spinach, this product is the ultimate superfood for the skin. It may look slightly green on the outside, but don’t be put off by this – the cleanser does an amazing job in ensuring skin is refreshed, balanced and squeaky clean. I also love the brand’s minimalist and simple packaging design.
