While it might be challenging sometimes to spot the wearable pieces of clothing, which just for the record really did exist here in the form of bike jackets, a navy blazer, a cool-looking hooded coat and bleached denim pieces, whether it’s for Dior Couture, one of his ready-to-wear lines or in this case, for his eponymous men’s collection, no one knows how to put on a show quite like John Galliano. The colorful cast of characters this season included Cockney pearly kings and queens, plus club kids from ’80s London and from present day Tokyo. For anyone familiar with the 1975 UK movie “The Naked Civil Servant”, one look was clearly inspired by gay icon and true English eccentric, Quentin Crisp. It is probably this designer’s willingness to draw from his own past and current fancies season after season that keep his work so fresh and so fascinating.
