PRINT DIVING

Thakoon Panichgul is part of a cadre of Michelle Obama and Vogue-approved young designers enjoying the spotlight for feminine, yet innovative work with broad appeal. While sticking to his signature exuberant prints, Thakoon incorporated scuba references similar to those shown by brands like Phi for Resort 2010 and famously explored by Balenciaga in 2003. Still, when combined with a bright, clear palette and less body-conscious dress silhouettes, these diving details become a bit easier to pull off than some of Panichgul’s trendy pieces like paneled bustiers and boxy, cropped double breasted jackets. The key elements here for S/S 10 are paneling, layered construction, piping and innovative print design with an artistic touch.
