New York: Magically feminine and yet quietly restrained, Thakoon Panichgul’s mainline S/S 13 collection had a retro undercurrent built around a figurative botanical floral motif, a classic Audubon illustration come to life on the runway. From the first look, a duchesse satin dress with an hourglass silhouette emphasized by a trompe l’oeil birdcage, it was clear the designer had become fascinated by prettiness. Luckily, pretty also meant innovative for Panichgul, and in addition to floral print dresses the presentation featured boxy, creative patchwork t-shirts, icy-hued layered lace and bold, oversized fishscale paillettes. An airy execution of graceful luxury, these pieces established an appealing and dreamy mood for Spring.—Nina Stotler
