New York: For C/R 12, Thakoon Panichgul once again modernized age-old motifs by applying them in untraditional ways to new silhouettes. Ikat was printed-on, chevrons and zigzags came by means of piecing and perforating, and Panichgul’s signature cabbage roses (in black and white) were printed and embroidered onto garments. Though Thakoon was inspired by gypsies this time, boxy Mod drop-waist silhouettes and clean color and pattern-blocking prevented all the folkloric influences from reading as overly bohemian. –Whitney Kessler
