Earlier last month, Amsterdam’s finest denim store Tenue de Nîmes released the latest instalment of its publication series “Nouvelle de Nîmes” with a special Denim Dictionary edition.
Denim enthusiasts will be happy to hear about the launch of the first ever printed denim dictionary. A must-have for the denim novice and seasoned denim-head alike, the Denim Dictionary captures all the denim terminology any jeans enthusiast should know by heart. Released as the 5th instalment of the stores online and printed jeanswear gazette, the publication explains terms and phrases ranging from ‘Shrink-to-Fit’ to ‘Rope Dying’ to ‘Whiskers’. Each of the packed 10 pages of indigo jargon are supported by illustrated sketches by Dutch native Joost Stokhof. Produced in collaboration with the Centraal Museum Utrecht (who presented The Blue Jeans exhibition earlier this year) the book aims to provide a comprehensive list of blue jeans terminology. The two parties sifted through numerous denim sources from around the globe to ensure an accurate list as possible.
