MODEST GLAMOUR
London: Alice Temperley knows feminine, her ladylike sensibility toeing the line between demure and glamorous with a dash of the subversive each season. For F/W 13 feminine meant full pleated skirts in wide stripes, checks or geometric repeats, portrait collar a-line swing coats and movie-star cat eye sunglasses. Temperley’s accessories, such as pointed platform pumps (instead of the expected kitten heel), cropped motorcycle gloves and tightly wound silk scarf chokers provided the subversion, as did sheer cutouts and cheeky peek-a-boo grids. Heavy satin gave structure to inverse pleat day looks, while sheer swiss dot mesh was a delicate accent to column gowns with slouchy front pockets.—Nina Stotler
