RETURN TO ELEGANCE
London: With full skirts, feminine tops, and even statement hats, Alice Temperley was in a 50s mood for spring. She cited Sophia Loren and couture models of the era as influences for her show, which she called “Return to Elegance.” Gone was the hippie-dippy bohemianism for which her label has been known. Its only remnant was found in a stray ikat print. Otherwise, it all ethereal sheers, sumptuous jacquards, and rich brocades. Elaborate beading and lace appliqués enhanced the preciousness of the items and the ultra-feminine mood. Longtime followers of Temperley London may be taken aback by the departure, but the collection will appeal to fans of ladylike styles. –Joanna Manganaro
