The godmother of contemporary fashion and 1/2 of the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibit Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations, suffice it to say Elsa Schiaparelli and her signature surreal aesthetic is ‘in the air’ right now, evidenced as much in a multitude of S/S 12 accessory collections by such varied designers as Delfina Delletrez and Diane Von Furstenberg as in the general Schiap obsession sweeping through fashion’s legions of late: enter online auction site 1stDibs with a *timely* sale of rare Schiaparelli accessories from her heyday in the late 1930s. We’ve gone gaga for her eyewear before so it’s nothing short of delightful (in the true sense of the word) to ogle these whimsical specimens of 20th century design. Our top vote goes to the telephone compact.
