The business of print design: Five minutes with Lucy Merriman

Skate legends, Steve Olson and Harry Jumonji, have teamed up with Manhattan’s coolest surf shop, Surf Saturday’s, to create 20 limited edition handmade custom “surf” decks. The shop held an intimate soirée to showcase the decks and celebrate the creativity, passion and sheer punk rock mentality that both Olson and Jumonji share for skateboarding and artwork.
Each “surf” deck had white wheels and a black lacquered base, with illustrations drawn by the artist’s and phrases like “Respect The Ocean!”
Jumonji and Alex Corporan, from Sole Technology (one of New York City’s OG skateboarders) were holding it down. On a side note -> Stay tuned for more coverage of Alex’s new NYC skateboarding book, Full Bleed.
Surf Saturdays co-owner, Josh Rosen (rockin’ Surf Saturdays signature t-shirt in navy blue) and Olson outside the shop on Crosby Street in SOHO.
As always, the festive crowd at Surf Saturdays enjoyed its open-air back patio while Schaller & Webber provided the sausages and beverages.
The guys at Surf Saturdays are super pumped for summer to come. The shop is fully stocked with cool tees, an assortment of VANS kicks and of course a vast selection of wetsuits, boardshorts and surfboards. Warm weather awaits!
