At a rumoured $4.5m for a 30-second spot, expectations were once again high for the ads aired during this year’s Super Bowl, though overall there was little in the way of big standout pieces of creative work like that of say Ram Trucks’ Farmer in 2013. Perhaps it was because a number of big brands reworked pieces from 2014, including Always with Like a Girl or Dodge with Wisdom, or maybe it just came down to budgets. Either way, what was new tied to the usual themes of either humour (Doritos, Fiat, Snickers) or sentimentality (Toyota Camry, Microsoft, Budweiser), with some additional pieces thrown in for good measure from Victoria’s Secret and Reebok.
