Through a new lens: It’s time to fall in love with rose gold sunglasses

The second the sun comes out, most of us have two thoughts. First thought: ‘Finally summer is here’ and secondly, ‘I need to buy a new pair of sunglasses’. For me, the latter has been taking up space in my mind and my phone. My pastime for the last week has been creating a new sunglasses Pinterest board (I swear by it as an activity to wish summer into arriving sooner). But this season, I’m just not interested in the classic optic white seasonal frame and tanned shade, but the cool new kid in town instead; the rose gold sunglasses.

I have been scouring the high street for my favourite and most affordable pair. Every retailer from River Island to ASOS and Urban Outfitters all offer up their versions and if you are looking for something more high end, then check out Linda Farrow for some Accentuated tear drop shades in the cat eye shape, and of course you can’t go wrong with a trusty old pair of Ray-Bans. My own newly ordered pair – are currently in transit and should be delivered before my Copenhagen trip later this week.

So, why the current popularity around this new key item that’s showing up on both the high street and luxury market?

“Rose gold has been perennial for watches and jewellery and is now moving into eye wear. We’re seeing this natural growth and progression across the accessories market. Plus the colourway really does feminise the famous aviator style. They are a great accessory to feature in your holiday collection – a tan, a bikini and a pair of rose gold sunglasses,” says the WGSN accessories team.

And from my perspective as a young, female consumer, the good thing about sunglasses (like most accessories) is that they are a cheap and cheerful way of instantly updating your look. They hide a multitude of sins, they upgrade your top to toe style (whether you are beach side or in the office on a sunny day) and if you get the right pair for your face shape, they accentuate your features. While you can’t always invest in a new beach bag, or the latest Mansur Gavriel bucket bag (complete with a sun yellow interior), throw on a pair of these rose sunglasses, with some lippy and you are instantly updated for summer 2016!

And even if the sun isn’t guaranteed through the whole of summer, the rose gold sunglasses are a nifty way to at least make it feel like the sun is shining.
