Designer Sue Wong has partnered with Sony Pictures to produce a clothing line inspired by the upcoming book-made-into-movie Eat, Pray, Love, starring Julia Roberts. The collection will launch next month, just in time for the movie’s August 13th release date. The pieces arrive hot on the heels of the “Eat, Pray, Love” perfume and candle collection by Fresh . Wong found strong parallels between Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling book and her own life. Of the three locations in Gilbert’s compelling story of self-discovery — Italy, India, and Bali — Wong gravitated to the segments set in India and Indonesia the most. The designs include a series of embroidered separates based on sarongs and vintage Indian saris. There are also camisoles, pajama pants, cocoon coats, and side-slit long skirts in silk, with elaborate embroidery in floral and paisley motifs. The overall color palette is authentic to the book’s setting, with peacock blue, turquoise, and crimson evoking the mood of the exotic locations.
The collection will range from $175 to $450 and be available at major department stores like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Dillard’s, as well as through Wong’s web site.
