The photography duo’s show of editorial work, commercial campaigns and behind-the-scenes video makes this exhibition fascinating viewing. WGSN City By City Associate Editor Emily Cater reports…
In Stockholm? If you do one thing in the city, make sure it’s visiting this show. Not only is it seriously inspirational, but it’s an incredible catalogue of work by two of the most prolific photographers of the moment…
What: Pretty Much Everything – 2015, an exhibition by super-hot photographers Inez & Vinoodh.
Where: Fotografiska, Stadsgårdshamnen 22 / 46 (0)850900500, until September 27, 2015.
Three Reasons We Love It:
1. The Fashion Editorials and Adverts: Let’s be honest – Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin can make anyone look incredible and they’ve captured some of the most interesting stars of our age for editorial and commercial media (think Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lawrence, Bjork and Alexander McQueen). Along with self-portraits and flower arrangements, these are displayed non-thematically and feature some of the duo’s best work. In short, this is an absolute must-see for any fashion or photography fan. A 700-page tome of the same name accompanies the exhibition, documenting their photographic journey together.
2. The Video Campaigns: In 2010, the photography duo used RED camera to make films on almost every photoshoot they did, allowing them to switch from photos to videos seamlessly. At the end of the print exhibition, visitors will find an hour’s worth of music videos for artists such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Bjork as well as beautiful fashion films for Dior, Saint Laurent and Vogue Paris to name a few.
3) The Venue: A visit to the inimitable Fotografiska is a must, whether you’re there to see the exhibition or not. It’s based on Stadsgårdshamnen – which is right on the waterfront – just a five-minute walk from Slussen station in trendy Sodermalm. Housed in a former warehouse, the contemporary photography gallery aims to show four major shows a year plus 15-20 minor ones from both Swedish and international photographers, with a gallery on the ground floor, and two on the first floor. Don’t miss the beautiful cafe and restaurant on the second floor – it’s got an incredible view of Djurgården and the archipelago.
