New York: Fun, energetic and full of summer colour, Stella McCartney presented her Pre-Summer collection at her annual garden party in lower Manhattan. The theme – a nod to Cuba, was complete with costumed characters on stilts, a live salsa band and dancers. “This season it’s all about life and color and flowers. There’s a joy to it.” McCartney explained. The lineup comprised of five ‘vignettes’, each as vibrant and as individual as the other with that clean McCartney signature. An oxford blue cotton shirtdress kicked off the proceedings followed by a black tailored suit, provocatively wrapped at the waist. Then came the exquisite oversized, sparcely placed floral embroideries on to-die-for summer dresses in both long and short variations. The androgynous side of McCartney is never too far away in tomboy cuts while eyelet embroidery trims were cut and placed onto romantic full skirts. A galloping horse motif on fil coupe dresses also gave a nod to her love of equestrian events. The finale – gorgeous silk dresses – lighter than air, played in to that colourful summer spirit. – Lizzy Bowring
