STELLA AND THE REAL GIRL
New York: Pre-Fall collections are known for containing the most commercial pieces a designer puts out, and if that standard is a measure of success, Stella McCartney hit it out of the park this season. McCartney offered well-cut basics that fit into everyday life. Whether it was oversized double-breasted outerwear, punchy shirtdresses, or slouchy blazers and pants, every piece looked as though it could work for a variety of occasions; a red raglan sweatshirt in particular would look right at the office or lounging on the weekend. The color palette of camels set off by navies, reds, and emerald green was fresh and crisp, and geometric shapes suggested a Constructivist influence. There were a few special pieces thrown in for good measure, including dresses with the lovely lacework that McCartney does so well.
