Paris: Stella McCartney, like her friend Phoebe Philo at Celine, has positioned her label to appeal to chic working women, offering a selection of tailored separates, daywear and cocktail dresses. This season, McCartney updated the pantsuit with cropped sleeves and slim, cuffed pants that fell just to the ankle, presenting a powdery pink version as her opening look. No-nonsense culottes appeared; the best styles were paired with matching halter vests for a new summer suiting option. Denim tunics, shifts and tops were boxy and clean, underlining the minimalist feeling. McCartney also jumped on the midi-length bandwagon with a series of blue and cream printed satin dresses, but she added a seductive edge to the covered-up length with thigh-high double slits. A punchy citrus print injected vivacity into the serene, sophisticated looks; used for boxy separates, midi dresses and a short shift, the print connected with the overall upbeat mood this season and showed McCartney’s playful side.
