WHAT WOMEN WANT
New York: Stella McCartney’s magic, and what keeps her clients coming back for more, is that she is expertly in tune with what real women want to wear. The way she cuts her trousers has become a thing of legend. These perfect pants appeared in a variety of styles for Pre-Fall. There were slim and straight styles, tapered versions, and standout slouchy pants that were shown in both solid tones and eye-catching prints. McCartney has been hitting home runs with said prints in recent collections (citrus bouquet, anyone?), and this season the motifs were as strong as ever. In addition to the wide stripes that took over the S/S 13 runways, the designer also presented a stylized tropical leaf pattern that was expressed with prints, on jacquards, and through embroidery and beading. Coats were another highlight. This season’s versions featured the exaggerated proportions that have been on such an up-trend of late. At her presentation in New York last night, McCartney debuted her sustainable eyeglass line. Eco-conscious and ultra-sophisticated? It doesn’t get much better than that, folks.–Joanna Manganaro
