New York: Despite his youth, Chris Benz has now collected several shows under his belt, and he continues to prove that he is evolving as a young, notable designer. After a dark, more refined season for Fall, the pink-coiffed Benz returned to an enthusiastic use of both color and print, a sensibility that earned him recognition in his earlier collections. A South Beach-inspired palette of pinks, greens and turquoise felt soft yet appropriately vibrant, and pocked, rough surface textures, created with dense beading and sequins, added oomph to solid pieces. Meanwhile, Marimekko-inspired florals, ethnic stripes and swirly marble prints added a kooky, mixed-up touch, especially when all were juxtaposed in a single garment. Custom-made sneakers, layered-on jewels and chic sunnies lent a casual, streetwear feeling to the “zany lady” aesthetic. —Shannon Davenport
