Milan: There was no question that life by the sea was not far from the mind of the designer Laura Lusuardi, at Sportmax. For Pre-summer 2016, she presented a clean, tailored and precise collection with that modern edge that we have come to expect from the brand. In a palette of navy, denim blue and crisp white, nautically inspired silhouettes were cut in exaggerated proportions, exemplifying the season’s ‘must have’ evolving trend. Trousers were cut wide at the hem, emphasising volume with full pleats tucked at the waist while lengths varied from cropped to floor sweeping. Elsewhere, fisherman’s rib sweaters came in cropped variations, printed with a rope motif or as chic skinny ribs, worn with trousers or short skirts. Closures were kept minimal – wrap belts and grommets were the order of the day while oversize pockets pockets in denim added intriguing contrasts; dresses in particular, were understated and elegant, particularly an asymmetrically wrapped version, simple yet beautifully streamlined. – Lizzy Bowring
