London: Dutch twin-sister design duo Spijkers en Spijkers were at their best this season, with a charming collection that was at once youthful and sophisticated. Tailored pieces, including a chic pantsuit with 70s-style high-waisted, flared trousers, were a surprising highlight, but the sisters’ signature femme looks were as strong as ever. Button-up shirts, short kicky skirts and slim shorts were made from lovely lace and broderie anglaise, and rhinestone buttons dressed up items like a khaki matched set. Trapezoid-shaped pieces came together for skirts that looked like granny quilts for a sweet, homemade feel. The designers were inspired by the Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue song “Where the Wild Roses Grow” this season, and the song’s influence seemed to appear for vintage-y floral prints that worked perfectly with the easy, feminine pieces.
