The first retrospective of its kind in the UK, Space NK’s latest exhibition, which took place this weekend, looked into the life and career of renowned make-up artist Kevyn Aucoin.
Beginning with original polaroids, letters from stars of the screen and stage, footage and products from the Aucoin estate, attendees were privy to the life beyond the make-up, where Aucoin was known for his generosity, kind spirit and sense of humour.
The rest of the exhibition travelled through the brand’s most important products, from the artist’s love affair with candle lit skin and perfectly quaffed eyebrows, through to the colour that remains at the very heart of the brand: Bloodrose.
Attendees of this one-off weekend event included the likes of Downton Abbey actress Laura Carmichael, hair stylist Sam McKnight and make-up artist Mary Greenwell.
Since Aucoin’s untimely death in 2002, the brand have stayed true to his trendless ideal, with any new products launched available all year round, and it is a testament to this notoriously down-to-earth man that his original creations – including the sensual skin enhancer and shrink wrap volume mascara – remain firm favourites.
A/W 14/15 sees the introduction of four new anti-ageing eye shadows, in a weightless cream consistency with a carefully designed black staple shade.
