The sheer number of world cup related products, partnerships, events, launches, collaborations and any other noun you can think of has been staggering. In fact it has become a little hard to separate the good from the not so good. This Stylesight scribe remembers watching World Cup ‘90 with family, a few ex-pats, recent immigrants and assorted foreign types. As we huddled around one TV, we could hardly find a listing of match times, let alone 24-hour coverage. Twenty years later, the amount of press media and commerical activity is staggering…Here are a few standout items that have caught our eye over the past week or so:
Nike has been an Iconic sportswear giant for 30+ years, and in a industry where magazines have shuttered left and right, music mag FADER has made it through the worst .The two have come together for one of the coolest partnership seen during this run up to the World Cup. Nike Sportswear X FADER “Pitch Perfect “.
Pitch Perfect started on June 1 and aims to bring together a world of music in honor of the World Cup. Over the course of June, Pitch Perfect will release mix-tapes representing all regions of the globe with music picked by seriously cool DJs and selectors (Sinden, Dex Pistols, Canyons, Maga Bo). So far, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia have been released. The project will culminate with a concert on June 16 in Soweto, South Africa. June 16th is an important day as it marks the anniversary of the Soweto Uprising, which saw youths take a stand against Apartheid in an early push for equality. The concert will feature artists from across Africa and certainly is going to major happening in area which still is shaking off effects of Apartheid 20 years later.

Often times piggybacked partnerships miss the mark at best or at worst are totally irrelevant. Stylesight has truly seen just about everything slapped with a WC2010 tag during the last year. One officially licensed project that caught our eye is not only well done and tasteful but also really cool! FIFA and The World Cup have issued a collection of 17 commemorative posters each by a different artist. Known as the Official Art Poster Edition.
Available as single prints or in a complete collection the works all stand up. Stunning but not cheap, as the complete Collection will set you back over 2400 Euros. Below check out some of our favorites from the series.
Finally in what can be called our favorite football related advertisement from this season of World Cup overload. Released just days ago by Adidas Originals the spot brings back some familiar Adidas faces, some new and an out of this galaxy location. David Beckham, Snoop Dog, Ian Brown and Noel Gallagher go for a pint with a few DAFT robot-rocking friends. The bar just happens to be in the town of Mos Eisley. ENJOY and May The Force be with your team!
