The Active Team likes to think we’re quite adventurous, fit and well…all around active! Camping in the California desert, check! Hiking Mt. Hood, Oregon to then descend while snowboarding, check! Yoga, check! Running a 10k, check! So, when it was time to saddle up and finally brave SoulCycle, we thought we could handle it — no problem at all. Well, here’s actually what happend…
SoulCycle is by far the most intense, high energy and amazing workout we’ve ever had in New York City. And the most difficult, gnarliest, don’t look back 45 minutes in our entire lives. Let’s be honest, it kicked our asses.
Upon entry into the studio, M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls” blared through studio speakers as we found our spots. The tight-knit room holds 50 plus bikes, making for a beyond-wet-sweat-session, and the lights are dimmed while flickering candles ignite an ambient mood. Instructor Emma Zaks took the reigns of the mic and led our class through a series of ups and downs…but mostly ups as we were instructed to keep our butts high off our seats for most of the time!
This particular experience with SoulCycle was at its Union Square post, one out of eight current locations in and around New York City, the Hamptons and Los Angeles – with additional plans to expand upward to 60 locations, including studios in London.
Co-founded by Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice in 2006, the duo has attracted a long list of celebrities and fitness enthusiasts, including everyone from Kelly Ripa, Anderson Cooper and Tom Cruise to Chelsea Clinton and Tory Burch. SoulCycle additionally has a line of its own active apparel geared for the classes. On trend cycling leggings, shorts and racerbacks.
