Sonia Rykiel

Paris: The final collection from Sonia Rykiel’s successor April Crichton was presented this season in the showroom rather than on the runway, a low-key venue that complimented the serenity of Spring. Although Crichton edited out Rykiel’s classic bright and energetic stripe, her replacements still spoke to the heritage of the line with draped and tied knit tops shredded for an edgy texture or embellished with braided trim. Bohemian and raw, these ensembles were at their best executed in soft pastel shades and a nearly monochrome jacquard wrap dress was S/S 13’s standout must-have. In contrast, a stiff sequined tunic and skirt combo seemed out of place and overly formal. Come Fall it will be Rykiel’s new Creative Director Geraldo da Conceicao who will decide which direction to take the brand.—Nina Stotler
