New York: The design team at Sonia Rykiel cited geishas and the 1980s as inspirations behind their Cruise/Resort collection. The Asian influences could be seen in wide belts, a kimono-inspired coat, and Japanese-style wooden sandals. The 80s manifested itself in tanks tied in the front, leopard patterned intarsia, and tapered pants. The classic Rykiel stripes were present, of course. In addition to the signature sweaters, the stripes were also found on the back of a leopard top, for a new and creative twist. The colorful leaf print that adorned the final few looks also recalled the 80s with its squiggles and abstract shapes. Quirkier elements, like the leaf print, mixed with classic pieces, evoking the label’s signature offbeat glamour. –Joanna Manganaro
